It's the best $16 you'll ever spend on photography. I've reads tons of books, both classic painter's textbooks and modern art books about composition, and none. Photography composition is one of the most difficult and frustrating skills to learn so I found three site eBooks to help you get a grasp on. I've learned a lot from these books. It can be a lot of information to take in at once. But, when you've mastered it.

Art Wolfe is a world class photographer, and it shows in The Art of the Photograph. I am assuming professionals already know this stuff. Composition is one of the most important artistic decisions in creating a photograph, and this book will do more than any other book I know to help to start you down the road to better compositions. The Art of the Photograph begins with a chapter on what inspires you. How many books start off by asking if you have created a place to live that inspires you photographically? For years Art has been turning his yard into a place of photographic inspiration. I was so taken by the thought that I went out and planted a garden that would inspire me to take pictures. The salt flat is one of the largest in the world and a remnant of an ancient lake. Art Wolfe and co-author Rob Sheppard move on to cover all the important issues in composition, the subject, constructing an image, the elements of design lines, shapes, form, texture , creative solutions, and a lot more. Lavishly illustrated with how own beautiful images, this book is head and shoulders above the other introductions to composition I have read. Like adults, children are painted with purplish black genipapo and red urucu, symbolizing vitality.

One of the best books I can recommend is Michael Freeman 's famous book: The Photographer's Eye: Composition and Design for Better Digital Photos This book is a rare gem, in that it does a pretty superb job of covering all the critical artistic topics of photography in a generally agnostic way.

Top 20 Photography Books to Improve Your Skills

Two other books by Michael Freeman should also find their way into your collection: Michael Freeman's Perfect Exposure: Creative Thinking for Better Digital Photos These three books comprise my favorites out of my entire collection, and have been the most useful and most used over the two or so years I've been doing photography. Here are some other great books that I found that have helped me learn the artistic side of things: One of the best ways to learn the artistic side of photography is observe the artistic photographs of other great photographers.

Alain Briot's " Mastering Landscape Photography: This book is a more-thorough compilation of his works on that site. David Noton's " Waiting for the Light " — Another excellent book for landscape photographers, this one explains how to find and use natural light. There do seem to be a few books and resources in that area: The Photographers Eye: Composition and Design for Better Digital Photos Fantastic book on composition from a general perspective Mastering Landscape Photography: All photographs, their location, and the gear used to capture them is detailed in the back of the book.

Then I added others of his: Kodak has a great book that I found at my library. Mastering Composition and Light. I've read the training manual. It is rather outdated in terms of the technology discussed, but gives a very good look at how to get your images "right".

Of course outdated, but rules not changed ; I saw many qestions here which are the answers in this book.

Composition, portrait etc. And it just look outdated, I not see any obsolescence issues here. Only what is outdated, that digital imaging is not discussed, but this is for post processing only not shoting.
